REFLECTED IN WATER Ridden by Meredith Hently
July Week 3 Workout
July Week 3 Workout
[/size]Meredith Hently was up and ready to workout the Radiance daughter. The bay filly was still a Maiden but, as a 2 year old it was normal. She had a long road ahead of her and Meredith wanted her to be prepared for the breeders cup sprint in the upcoming years. The light bay filly stood proudly awaiting for her her jockey to take her place on her back. The horse was intent and as stubborn as she was Meredith learned to handle her.
This week Remi was entered into the July Maiden Dirt in week two. Reflected in water was a sprinter on dirt surfaces while it didn't suit her very well to run distances she was trained for sprints. The July maiden Dirt was filled with three horses to enter. First was Rhinestone Riley, a dapple grey filly running for the new stable on the tracks, Rhinestone Stables. She was also a sprinter and this seemed to be the filly's first time on the track which meant she could be highly unpredictable.
In the other gate to challenge Remi was March to Glory. Another of Rhinestone's horses. She was a 3 year old Maiden. Another new horse on the tracks to brighten up the competition. Meredith simply would guide Remi to the outside and certainly show them the filly on the track was to be reckoned with. Approaching the dirt tracks of Green Horse Fields, Meredith hadn't brought Remi out here in awhile. "Here's where the big races play out girl." She said as the filly nickered with the bobbing of her head.
Reflected in Water was brought out slowly and gentle while she trotted for the first few furlongs she needed to get familiar with the track. As the first foal to G1 Radiance, she was certainly going to be watched. A young jockey was also working out a training horse and while the two were among the beginning of the back stretch Remi woke up out of her shell to blissfully pull away from her trotting stride to sprawl out into a full gallop.
Meredith held on tight to her horse raising her body frame to release most of the weight off of the filly as she was now halfway way passed the back stretch ears on high alert. The horse's blows from her nose were certainly on edge as she began to pick up a more steady pace moving to the outside of the track as her normal strategy. Her sire was a strong runner on dirt surfaces and while Remi seemed to pick up a few traits there was still much to be learned from the filly.
Pulling away from the stretch she then came side to side with the confidence horse already racing here. Locking her head with the other horses Remi whinnied with the life of her and as the last furlong pole reached the horse and Meredith took on the last and final speed to race off into victory. The crowd would be cheering but, even a daughter to the breeders cup winner Radiance had her bad days. When her nose dashed passed the finish it was something to always remember and Meredith so wanted this win for her because it would break her maiden stride a become a Grade 5 as a 2 year old. They would only tell as the race came.
